Well now, Eighteen Hours have there own page on Facebook, complete with band pics, gig news, etc. Think of it as our website, only not as good and not as easy to direct people towards…

We’ve finally done it! The ‘new’ CD that we recorded 6 months ago has finally been pressed. Artwork done, tracks mixed and stuff. It’s looking and sounding good even if we do say so ourselves.

Hot on the heels of this new CD is our new logo, which is almost exactly the same as the old one, but that’s good because the old one was also awesome!

Check out our website for downloads of the artwork and MP3s of the tracks… but for the real thing you’ll have to pop along to one of our shows and pay the lofty sum of £ZERO… that’s right folks, nothing, zilch, gratis… we’re giving it away! What’s your excuse now!?

Long time no review, I hear you cry… all that’s about to change!

So there we are, minding our own business, passing the time before the gig having a flick through the local paper when we notice a little write-up about our gig! ’18-hour Ordeal’, they said – cleverly taking our name and juxtaposing it with that of our noble support act for the night, After The Ordeal! We read on and found quite possibly the greatest compliment we’ve ever been paid…

Hours play the kind of rock you might listen to while jumping the Grand Canyon on a monkey-handlebar monster bike in your underpants

Jumping the Grand Canyon? Monkey Handlebar Monster Bike? Underpants?

Yayah!

After the Ordeal did a fine job of warming up the crowd. Alright, their guitarist might be a touch on the daddy-long-legs side of things, but he was obviously enjoying the music and why shouldn’t he. It was a mix of emo and metal that seems quite fashionable and is clearly serving them well as the set out on a tour of the South East! Good luck to ‘em!

As we took to the stage the temperature outside must have dropped 10 degrees as the room filled up nicely.

We opened with User followed by a short, sharp dose of All The Same. It was clear after those two that one of the Stroud brothers (Jonny? Is that big or little Stroud? I have no idea!) had been drinking for some time. He decided Dan L couldn’t quite get through the set without his help and duly started hammering the strings for him. It sounded… okay!

Then it was the new one – Voyeur. Always a nervous moment for us when we realise we probably haven’t rehearsed the song quite enough but it went off without a hitch and we survived!

The rest of the set went just lovely, thanks, and all those who were there seemed to be in the mood for their slice of rock!

Free CDs were handed out to those who stayed to the bitter end and Stevenage was a happier place for it!

Next one is back at the Tav on 23rd Apr. We know you’ll be there!

That’s right folks, it’s official! Melodic/Alternative/Hard/Classic Rock Heroes Eighteen Hours have been confirmed for this year’s Rhythms Of The World festival in Hitchin!

Should be early enough for the sun to be out and for other scary bands not to have scared the crowds away! Also, more importantly, it’s early enough for us to do our thang, get off stage and join in with the drinking festivities that shall surely be occupying the majority of Hitchin-dwellers’ attention that weekend!

So last night was gig night! Once again we took the stage at The Tavern in from of a packed crowd all suitably warmed up by the fantastic Toy Radio.

The night started like all Tav gigs. Everyone sort of arrives at some unspecified time and wonders if we should start setting up. We try and remind ourselves how Matty’s PA works, try and find plug sockets, mats for the drum kit and a place for the 5 million chairs we needed to move!

Toy Radio were on first and played a blinder. We’re massive fans of their sound-scaping, alternative rock stylings and recommend you check them out! Their last track has the kind of riff that makes a whole room of people start nodding their head and pouting their lips. “Oooh, that’s nice”, they cried!

Then it was our go…

We decided that set lists are for girls so took to the stage with only a vague idea which songs we’d be playing. It turned out that we played pretty much exactly the same set as the last gig.

White Lies is a new track we’ve played at our last 2 gigs. We’ve probably gigged it more than we’ve practised it now, but I don’t think anyone realised. We were almost tempted to throw in a brand spanking new one but, since Dave hasn’t heard it, I can’t really remember it and Dan hasn’t got any lyrics for it, we decided it wasn’t a good idea! You’ll love it when you hear it though! Trust me!

On a personal note, I found out that gaffer taping up a set of nearly broken drum sticks does actually work, and that sharing a glass of water with Dave makes me feel all funny inside. (Too much? Maybe!)

Big thanks to everyone who came along. Since we aren’t advertising or linking to this blog yet it seems unlikely any of you are reading this, but thanks all the same.

On this site, Eighteen Hours will be blogging their band life, filling you in on all things 18h including gig news & reviews, song stuff, band stuff – basically anything that any of us can be bothered to type up!

Keep an eye on www.18hours.co.uk as we hope to have a website up there soon. In the meantime, check out the recently updated www.myspace.com/eighteenhours for a listen to our new recording.

The band spent a total of 47 hours in the studio working on those 3 tracks and owe a lot to the engineering-wizardry of Gareth from SoundARC, who made it sound like we know what we’re doing!

In time, we hope to show you music videos and a whole bunch of photos, maybe even some rough recordings of new material if/when it emerges.
